Frequently asked questions

What is Pattern Theory?

Pattern Theory is an integrated approach to leadership development that combines executive coaching with psychotherapy. Most leadership development addresses behaviour. Pattern Theory goes deeper, working simultaneously on what is visible and on the unconscious cognitive, emotional and physiological patterns that drive it.

How does it work?

Effective leadership runs on a simple loop: intention, action, outcome, and learning. Under pressure, that loop breaks. Mismatch triggers unconscious defensive patterns that distort perception and block learning at precisely the moments that matter most. Pattern Theory works directly on that process, using coaching to clarify intention and strengthen execution, and psychotherapy to address the patterns preventing it.

Who can benefit?

Pattern Theory is designed for founders, leaders, and senior teams in business and public sector organisations who are looking to close the gap between intention and outcome, whether in performance, relationships, or their capacity to lead under pressure.

What are the benefits?

Leaders who work with Pattern Theory consistently report the same shifts: intention translating into action, clearer judgement under pressure, stronger relationships, and a conscious awareness of the patterns that had previously been driving behaviour outside their awareness.

How do sessions work?

Sessions are available face to face, online, or as a combination of both, depending on what works best for you.

Is what we discuss confidential?

Everything discussed in sessions is confidential to you. Nothing is shared with third parties without your explicit consent, including where an organisation is sponsoring the work.
